Born in Puerto Rico, Celeste Umpierre received a Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Puerto Rico in 1987 followed by a Master of Architecture from Princeton University in 1990.

Prior to founding CU–A, Celeste Umpierre worked for several architectural firms including Keenen Riley Architects, Lupo Rowen Architects and Gwathmey Siegel Architects. She was the Project Architect for the International Center of Photography Museum and the Central Park South Residence while at Gwathmey Siegel Architects.

Celeste Umpierre has been a registered architect in the state of New York since 1996. She founded CU–A in 2005.

CU–A has completed numerous residential projects including a brownstone in Park Slope, a residence on Fifth Avenue and several garden apartments in Jackson Heights. CU–A is currently working on a house addition in Southampton and a house addition in Springfield Gardens.

Umpierre combines professional practice with teaching architecture design. She has taught design studios at the NYIT School of Architecture and at the NJIT School of Architecture. She has also been a guest reviewer at Parsons, Pratt and City College.
